Introduction

Hello everyone!

I'm happy to present to you all our new project, Pokemon Blank! This is an early project that we started working on about 6 months ago. At first, we wanted to wait for the version 0.25 of PSDK but we decided that it couldn't hurt to post the first demo in advance. Our team is mainly composed of two French people, but the presentation and the game will be in English.

Synopsis

The Arceara region was known in the world for its never-ending conflicts and civil wars. Throughout its history, it underwent countless cycles of revolutions and dictatorships. Until one day, a new revolution emerged and destroyed the opposition. A new government was formed and after a few decades, the region was able to get back on its feet, connect to the rest of the world and flourish as it has never done before.

Unfortunately, old minds, not ready to give up the power they once had, kept working in the dark on a plan to re-sink the region to a state where they could dominate the populations. One day, one of them was able to acquire new dark powers and decided to attack Shedinjir, a city situated on the side of the region, and take control of it. He started by brainwashing people who in turn, brainwashed their relatives. Once he got control of the leaders of the city, he officially declared war with the rest of the region and Shedinjir has been isolated ever since.

This game tells the story of a group of young adults living in the castle of this newly emerged dictator and set to become part of the new generation of Pokemon soldiers that will one day attack the other cities and help to take control of the rest of the region. Every day, they are being trained under unbearable conditions until they become cold machines. Luckily, before any of that happens, they decide they have enough and escape the castle.

Fakemons we are working on


The game

- 4G-style pokemon game created using RPG Maker XP and Pokemon SDK.
- The game will be story-oriented. Players should expect reading a few dialogues, but we made sure to add plenty of opportunities for exploration as well!
- As I (Racaillou) like challenging games like the Kaizo series or Platinum renegade, the default difficulty of the game will be quite higher than the main series game, but we'll make sure to implement some difficulty configurations in the future so that it's playable by anybody.
- A level cap will be implemented and is determined by the number of badges. It will allow for a more challenging game, like Pokemon Reborn, as well as preventing the use of a single overpowered pokemon. After reaching the level cap, a pokemon will stop gaining any experience or EVs.
- Works on Windows 10.
- Language: English.
- The default PSDK interfaces, animations, keys and features are still used in that first demo, but we will make sure to personalize it in the future.
- Playing time of version 0.1.0 is ~2h30.

The future game

- Our current skills allow us to program, make maps and work on events, but we have difficulty creating our own resources so the game (interfaces, charas, pokemons...) is not very personalized yet, but we'll make sure to work on that,
- Implementation of 18 gyms which will give access to the Pokemon League Tournament and the Elite 4 challenge.
- Several weathers (some original) will be implemented and impact the battles.
- The difficulty of the game should be highly configurable: nuzloke, items in battles, free pokemon centers, damage receives, level cap etc.
- At least 400 pokemons will be made available, but we might end up adding all of them if this project works well.
- As many regional forms or new pokemons will be added to the game in order to make it more unique.
- Some legendary pokemons will be part of the story but none will be catchable (the protagonist is not as godlike as Red or Ethan).
- No multi-player is planned.

Current issues

- Friendly AI is not implemented so double battles with an ally won’t actually be done with the ally.
- The battle transitions don’t work well in full screen.
- Badges won’t appear on the trainer card. The trainer card still being the default one.
- The town map can be displayed but only part of the map is made.
- When saving, the wrong location is displayed.

It is still an early version, but you can already play the start of the adventure and will need at least 2 hours to finish it. In any case, enjoy yourself and we'll appreciate any review! Thanks for reading!

Bon courage pour ton projet ! Juste par curiosité, pourquoi tout uniquement en anglais ? Est-ce un choix parfaitement réfléchi ou alors une méconnaissance du système permettant une traduction facile d'un jeu PSDK ? (Sache qu'il est aussi possible de remplacer à la volée les textes et préparer les fichiers de traduction en une seule commande).
En tout cas bon courage pour ton projet. :)
Notre problème est: nous ne sommes que deux a travailler sur un jeu qui est plutôt ambitieux. Par conséquent, ils nous semblaient plus simple de choisir une seule langue et de diminuer la charge de travail. Il est vrai que je suis plutôt catégorique dans ma description mais si notre équipe s'agrandit un jour, alors je considerais une traduction en français.
